Chromate conversion coating, often referred to as chemfilm, Alodine, or Iridite, is a finishing process that passivates aluminum and transforms the surface into a corrosion resistant protective layer. This process can be done alone or it can be done alongside type II aluminum anodizing for increased protection. Parts that require painting often benefit from an initial coating of chemfilm because it creates a corrosion resistant primer that paints adhere to well. Many aircraft parts that are exposed to the elements require a chemfilm coating before painting in order to provide the most protective and long-lasting finish possible.
We offer chromate conversion coatings for MIL-DTL-5541 Class 1A and Class 3. The best coating for corrosion protection is the Class 1A while the Class3 is used to maintain electrical conductivity on the surface of the material.
